For the past two years, MiTribe Media has been proud to offer a yearly Short Film Fund to support Vancouver-based independent filmmakers (check out our previous Short Film Fund recipients HERE and HERE). In 2020, we are taking the fund to new heights!
The team behind this year’s selected short film will receive a $5000 grant and complementary production services (help with casting, filling positions, finding locations etc) as needed.
The recipient of the fund will be announced on June 6th and will have until September 1st to complete production, and until March 1st 2021 to complete post-production. Upon completion of the film, the filmmakers will own both the copyright and distribution rights to their film and can proceed with the project as per their wishes.
We only require 2 things from the end product:
- That MiTribe receive due credits in the film.
- That some material from the film (eg. trailer) is screened at MiTribe’s annual party in late November.
APPLY FOR THE FUND!
Applications will be open from March 31st to April 30th. Specific instructions will be available on our website at that time. We will also be holding an information session March 17th, 5pm, at the ANZA Club (3 W 8th Ave).
In the meantime, you can begin to prepare the following: a 300 – 500 word written pitch and a draft of the script (an early/rough draft is fine). We will also be accepting 1 – 3 minute video pitches to go along with your written pitch.
The cost to apply will be $10 per project. There is no limit to the number of projects one filmmaker may submit.
After April 30th, the pitches will be reviewed by the MiTribe Panel, a group of 5 industry professionals with years of experience in filmmaking at all levels (details on your 2020 panelists coming soon!). The panel will be narrowing the applications down to a shortlist of 10 filmmakers. These filmmakers will be invited to in-person pitch interviews with the MiTribe Panel that will take place in late May.
