Table Read Workshops

The team at MiTribe is happy to host a monthly Table Read Workshop at the ANZA Club (3 west 8th ave). The purpose of the workshop is to provide a space for actors, writers and directors to work on their craft together and give constructive feedback. Writers, producers and directors can bring material they are working on and have their scripts read by actors. This is an opportunity for people to not only have their work read aloud (perhaps for the first time) but also to grow their network within the Vancouver film and television industry. The primary focus of these reads is feature films and TV pilots. These workshops are free to attend and free snacks/drinks will always be provided!

GET INVOLVED AS A WRITER

If you are interested in getting involved as a writer, please email your name, contact information and script to mitribe@mitribemedia.com. We are committed to ensuring the confidentiality of your material and will not share your script with any 3rd parties unless given explicit permission. You are welcome to watermark your script if confidentiality is still a concern. You will be contacted via email if your script is selected to be read and a date for the read will be arranged. It is highly encouraged that anyone interested in getting involved in the Table-Read Workshops come to one as an audience member first to gain a better understanding of the format.

Please note the following:

  1. The purpose of the table reads is to give writers a chance to hear their material read aloud by actors. Ideally, this will give them new perspectives on their story and characters. After the read it is highly encouraged that the writer be open to receiving constructive feedback from both the actors and the audience. Writers are also encouraged to give actors feedback on their performance.
  2. All scripts submitted for the Table Read Workshops must be a minimum of 40 pages long and a maximum of 120.
  3. This is not a cold reading workshop. Actors at the MiTribe Table Read Workshops are given the script at least a few days in advance to prepare for their roles. All actors on the MiTribe cast list are bound by the same confidentiality agreement as MiTribe Media and will not share scripts with any 3rd parties. Writers must be prepared to trust the professionalism and discretion of the selected performers.
  4. Every script featured in the Table Read Workshops will be cast by MiTribe Media from the MiTribe cast list. However, MiTribe is always open to growing our family of actors. If you have actors in mind, you are more than welcome to bring them on as part of the read.
  5. MiTribe Media is dedicated to supporting local actors and writers. We are only able to offer these table-reads because of the generous support of those who participate. Both the script submission process and the read itself will always be free of charge. A donation box will be available the night of every read. We greatly appreciate any help participants are able to provide.
  6. The MiTribe Table Read Workshops are presented in partnership with the ANZA Club. Attendees of the workshop can be signed up for ANZA Club membership the night of the table-read for extra perks.

If interested in getting involved as a writer, please email your name, contact info and a PDF of your script to mitribe@mitribemedia.com

GET INVOLVED AS AN ACTOR

If you are interested in getting involved as an actor, please email your headshot, resume and demo reel (if applicable) to mitribe@mitribemedia.com. You will be contacted via email and will be invited to attend one table-read as an audience member. If interested in reading at the next one, you will then be added to the cast list. Each month we select actors from this list to fill available roles in the script. Although we always do our very best to ensure an even distribution of roles among our actors, please note that a role is not guaranteed in every month’s read. We do encourage any actors not cast to come as audience members and give feedback to the writer at the end of each read.

Please note the following;

  1. This is not a cold reading workshop. Each month the script will be sent out at least a few days in advance. Although being off book is never required, actors must be willing to read the script in advance and prepare strong character choices for the roles they are given.
  2. Actors should be prepared to bring their own copy of the script (either printed or digital) to the read. MiTribe Media will be providing a limited number of spare copies, but there is no guarantee that one will be available.
  3. The goal of MiTribe Media is to grow and support the Vancouver independent film community in a way that is collaborative rather than competitive. We are seeking out actors who are genuinely interested in supporting their cast-mates and the writers of the featured project. Actors who wish to get involved will not always be given lead parts and must be willing to take on minor supporting roles as well.
  4. MiTribe Media is dedicated to supporting local actors and writers. We are only able to offer these table-reads because of the generous support of those who participate. Entry to the MiTribe Table Read Workshops is free of charge and always will be, however a donation box will be available the night of every read. We greatly appreciate any help participants are able to provide.
  5. The MiTribe Table Read Workshops are presented in partnership with the ANZA Club. Attendees of the workshop can be signed up for ANZA Club membership the night of the table-read for extra perks.
